On top of the world... Our team member Ulla Lohmann is happy to have reached the world's highest volcano with almost 7000 m. Ojos del Salado at 6893 m is the highest volcano of the world, the highest mountain of Chile and the second highest mountain in the world outside the Himalaya. The climb success rate is about 25%, and climbers can face extreme conditions at the top, wind gusts of up to 200 km/h and temperatures down to -30 deg C are nothing unusual here. The volcano is located in the highest desert of the world, the Puna de Atacama, where still many remnants of the Incas can be found. They constructed offering platforms for sacrifice rituals (incl. human sacrifices) at an altitude of 6739 m! (Photo: Basti Hoffmann)
