A characteristic 4 m thick dark banded layer is in the caldera cliff of Santorini near Fira. It is a spectacular welded pumice fall deposit, corresponding to the Plinian phase of so-called Middle Pumice eruption (ca. 60 Ka). (Photo: Tom Pfeiffer)
